CITE TMAP Program FAQs

Why should I apply for CITE TMAP?

The CITE TMAP curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive and enriching learning experience for both existing IT Managers and aspiring IT Managers in K-12 institutions. Through this program, candidates will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of disaster planning, contracts and procurement, service lifecycle, team management, and project management. Additionally, candidates will strengthen their business writing, situational analysis, and presentation skills. The instructors leading this program are highly experienced K-12 IT leaders with at least 10 years of relevant experience in the Education sector.

How much homework should I expect as a candidate in the program?

To graduate from the course, students will need to complete assignments that complement each module.

The assignments themselves will challenge individuals to self-reflect, organize their thoughts, structure written content, practice writing situational responses, document processes and procedures, write memos, prepare reports, and deliver presentations. Some of the assignments will require research within their respective LEAs. Candidates should expect to spend approximately three hours on assignments every two weeks.

Who should I ask to be a reference?

A professional reference is mandatory for the application. We strongly advise obtaining a nomination from your Director or CTO, as it plays a crucial role in demonstrating your organizational support. Moreover, it helps your organization comprehend the time commitment you are making to the program.

What is the cost once I am accepted to the program?

Tuition costs for the TMAP course are $3,000 in 2024. Participants are responsible for paying for their travel and lodging to classes. Breakfast and lunches are provided for in class full-day (8am - 4pm) sessions.

What payment methods are accepted for the tuition?

Tuition can be paid by check (purchase orders accepted), money order, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.

Can I ask my employer to sponsor me?

Absolutely! This program will benefit your employer by providing a first-class professional development program. Some possible sources of funding include grants, other professional development funding, or the general fund.

How many classes are there?

The program consists of six (6) classes held on Fridays (unless otherwise noted).

When and where do the classes take place?

Of the 6 classes, three are in person and three on Zoom. Cohort 5 in-person classes will be held in Sacramento (location TBD). Attendance is mandatory for all sessions, and failure to attend may result in being dropped from the program.

Do I have to renew the certificate once I have complete the project?

Yes. All successful candidates will be expected to renew their certificates based on the recertification instructions.

What are the qualifications you are looking for in TMAP participants?

A successful candidate for the CITE TMAP should currently have or show potential in the following areas:

  • IT Customer Service: networking, servers, desktops, user support
  • Logical Thinking Skills, including involvement with or management of large projects
  • Analytical Abilities, including experience developing or assisting with the development of a technology budge or experience with school finance or purchasing
  • People Skills, including the ability to communicate well with others orally and in writing

In addition, the candidate should have a career objective to become a K-12 IT manager or future CTO.

Do we have a mentor?

TMAP does not have mentors. However, program alumni will occasionally provide feedback on assignments.

What if I miss a class?

We encourage you to attend every session to fully benefit from the program. Unavoidable absences will be discussed with the CITE leadership and every attempt to develop an alternative for makeup will be made. Absence from a session without explanation may result in being dropped from the program.

What if I miss one or more assignments?

Candidates must complete all prerequisites, homework assignments, and any in-class assignments to be qualified for completion and certification.

What if I change jobs during the program?

If you leave the K-12 environment, you may be released from the program. Many of the assignments revolve around working with others in a school district or COE and not being exposed to that environment could make it difficult to complete the program.

When can I apply?

TMAP cohorts run three times a year (Spring, Summer, and Fall). The application period open approximately four months and closes 60 days before the start of sessions. For example, a Cohort that starts March 7th will have an application period of late-November through early-January.
