Celebrating Student Data Privacy Day: Five Years of CITE’s Privacy Services
On this Student Data Privacy Day, CITE is proud to highlight the five-year anniversary of Privacy Services coming up this April! Privacy Services is our statewide program dedicated to protecting student information by supporting Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the management of their Student Data Privacy Agreements (DPAs).
Since its launch on April 1, 2021, Privacy Services has helped LEAs save thousands of hours, reduce legal burdens, and strengthen safe digital learning environments across California.
Why Privacy Services Matters
California’s Education Code 49073.1 requires districts to ensure that every digital tool collecting student data has a compliant DPA. With hundreds of apps used across schools, LEAs quickly became overwhelmed.
CITE responded to the passage of this Ed Code by developing statewide resources, partnering with F3 Law, and helping establish the National Data Privacy Agreement (NDPA). As demand grew, so did the need for hands-on support, leading to the creation of the full-service Privacy Services program.
